"That's a perfect description, yes," responds Danielle. "I Quit is like a personal statement. You have to actively work on blocking the criticism and saying, 'It doesn't matter to me what people think'."

Refinement of Style

That developed resilience called for a new sound – more unpolished and immediate than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that started with the drums.

"Percussion is such a specific thing, and I care so much about it," she emphasizes.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the name of our memoir," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums don't start until we find the ideal drum sound."

Stories and Collective Camaraderie

The trio's candor fueled the album's rollout, where the sisters revealed some of their romantic misadventures.

One man broke up with Este over a medical consideration. Alana recalled a story of flying to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"During these setbacks, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "So to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's so amazing."

An Assured Future

It's not difficult sense a evolution in the band. Today, Haim are more confident of their place in the music world.

They're festival headliners, with hit albums and an worldwide fan base.
