A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his worries.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.
She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
